Chinmay Pradhan justified his status as top seed by winnings the singles title in the AITA 50K Men’s Ranking Tennis Tournament, which cocluded here at KIIT International School today. In the all-Odisha final, Pradhan beat second seed Ansu Kumar Bhuyan 6-3, 6-1. This was the second men’s career title for Pradhan, who had bagged his first one at Gurukul Tennis Academy, near here on May 3, 2013.
The winners gained 15 ranking points and a cash prize of Rs 6,5000, while the runner-up settled with 12 points and a cash prize of Rs 4,500. KIIT International School Principal Sanjay Suar gave away the trophies in presence of tournament director Jamini Mohanty and tournament referee Jatin Batsya.
Bhuyan, however, compensated his singles defeat to a good extent by pocketing the doubles title with partner Avilash Mishra earlier yesterday. Seeded third, Bhuyan and Mishra beat top seeds Ajay Nishank and Satirtha Patnaik in the all-Odisha doubles final in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Altogether 48 players from 14 states participated in the tournament, which was organised by Odisha Tennis Association (OTA).
